Our Story

Founded in 2017 by leading scar therapy specialist Emma Holly, Restore Scar Therapy has grown to become the UK’s foremost provider of scar therapy education, now building a global teaching team. Building on classical Sharon Wheeler ScarWork fascial techniques, Emma incorporated her massage skills to develop an innovative and client centered approach.  Incorporating a variety of non-invasive treatment options in her courses, such as negative pressure therapy, commonly known as cupping, and kinesiology taping. Lockdown limitations to face-to-face practice provided an opportunity for Emma to develop better ways clients can support their own recovery with self-scar care.

Today, our Restore methodology combines simple, effective manual techniques with accessible online learning resources, ensuring practitioners develop lasting expertise in scar therapy. Working alongside a highly skilled team of specialist tutors, we’re expanding our reach globally, with teachers based across England, Wales, Scotland, Ireland, Australia and New Zealand.

Our commitment to advancing scar therapy practice has led Emma and our team to speak at prestigious international conferences, including Scars2023 in Berlin, the Australasian Lymphology Symposium in Auckland, and the Association of Breast Surgery Conference 2024 in the UK.

Emma, together tutor Tina Glynn run a clinical practice in London’s renowned Harley Street. We continue to innovate in scar therapy training while also building a global community of skilled practitioners through our dedicated Restore Scar Therapy directory and online support group.

Making scar therapy accessible

The Restore Scar Therapy Pledge: We believe everyone deserves access to effective scar therapy. Through our pledge, we’ve provided over 2,300 free treatments, with a commitment to reach 5,000. These supervised clinic sessions offer vital experience for practitioners while making specialist treatment accessible to those who need it most.

Free treatments are booked via the supervised clinic booking system on our Restore Scar Therapy directory. Share these details with anyone who may benefit from a free scar treatment with the supervised students, or if you are a therapist with a scar, come and try and treatment and see how effective our techniques are.

Training with us is a win-win for you as a practitioner as well as those living with scar tissue.

Our Global Teaching Partners

We want to make in-person as well as online scar therapy training available internationally. Our global partners share our commitment to high-quality training and help extend the reach of Restore Therapy’s teaching to professionals around the world. They have invested in extensive training in the Restore Therapy method and techniques and independently organise and present the in-person training components of the Restore Therapy courses. All learners are enrolled onto the same online elements for all courses. We already have a global partner for the Oncology Scar Specialist in New Zealand and for the Scar Therapy Practitioner Ireland. Training is being completed by our new partners in Australia who will be teaching the Oncology Scar Specialist and we plan to extend with new global partners in the future.

How to become a global Restore teaching partner

Global teaching partners are required to invest in mastering the techniques and materials. They are expected to enrol as an attendee on the course they would like to teach and Understanding Scars to deepen their theory knowledge. They will follow a program of development, with a requirement to return to attend the course they wish to teach multiple times and lead demonstrations under observation before progressing to lead their own courses.
